November 28, 2009   Dog Adoption Day in Vaudreuil-Dorion, Quebec

Our Saturday Nov 28/09 ADOPTION DAY at GLOBAL on St Charles, Vaudreuil-Dorion was a wonderful day for us to show some of our dogs for adoption.  It also gave them a fun day out to meet the public, get cuddled, and one, BOGEY, even modeled coats for a prospective customer choosing a gift of a dogcoat for a friend’s dog!  He was quite the dapper model!  TINSOL showed off his new shaved coat; TOBY delighted everyone with his gentle giant ways;  LUCY completely charmed everyone as a Basset always does; AMY showed that an older BEAGLE can be a calm friend; HAPPY BOY lived up to his name playing with toys Michele and Christine generously gave them!

We THANK those of you who gave donations to our cause which was sorely needed and deeply appreciated.  To those who brought in dogs both previously adopted from us, or visiting dogs—always a pleasure.   Highlight to our day was greeting MONTY, a Gerdy’s adoption who had a close call with a surgery for stomach torsion, a potentially deadly sudden condition—we urge all dog owners to familiarize themselves with the signs as it is becoming more common and a lifesaving surgery is necessary with no delay.  Glad to see you recovering so well Monty—we all love you!

A visit by little PEACHES  (now Pixel) was also a highlight of our day—to see a dog without hope, so neglected in every way, come back with a foster’s love and attention (thanks Joy!) and go on to a wonderful life with a woman who adores her and a new brother, Spencer, to watch over her as big brothers do, true companion dogs to each other and Naomi!  Denise came by with BOOTS the Pug to charm us, along with others who visited.  We sold some of our RAFFLE TICKETS for our DRAW on DEC 5 at THE HUDSON PET FAIR—tickets available til draw time!

A big thanks to MICHEL and CHRISTINE for inviting us to have an ADOPTION DAY at their store, and the gracious staff who made us and the dogs  feel so welcome—and the pizza was delicious!!  !  Thank you to the DOG HANDLERS of the day—Coleen, Sandy, Yvette, Gisella, Roger and Judy.  Thanks to all who came and chatted with us, old friends and new—it made for a very informative and enjoyable day!

November 07, 2009   Gerdy's Rescues to attend UNDERDOG GALLERY in Montreal, Quebec

We had a wonderful time showing our Underdogs in hopes of adoption, sadly this time no one was placed.  But ever hopeful, we will try again next time!

Gerdy thanks Fern Breslaw &  Underdog Gallery for the opportunity, and the volunteer people there, as well as Yvette, Colleen, Judy & Roger for handling the dogs we took, Toby, Amy, Carlos, Kimo, and Lucy. A special thanks to Nicole for the beautiful photos sent us of our dogs!

October 17, 2009   Fundraiser Garage Sale in Pointe-Claire, Quebec

The day was a crisp one, thankfully a sunny one!  We were very busy all day, this being our final garage sale of the season, and we attracted many customers and friends.  Some brought their dogs, which we enjoyed seeing.

Thanks to volunteers who helped out in so many ways; Yvette & Glen, Betty, Sandy and Gisella , Joy and Claire, Judy and Roger—we had a great day.  Some of our Gerdy’s dog visitors were Montana (now Bailey)—son of Trixie,  handsome Cooper, chocolate labs  Memphis and Moka,  Lily the Basset.

Sadly Gerdy was unable to attend as she was sick, but she was there in spirit!  Thanks to Sandra & Ed of Chez Sandra Chalet et SPA for helping transport new items and storing them at her place for us til sale date, also thanks to Leila for loaning us the use of her cabane for storage as well in preparation for this sale.

A good tIme was had by all, and as the sun set on us packing away for next year—we look forward to seeing everyone at our first spring garage sale of 2010!

October 03, 2009   Fundraiser Garage in St. Lazare, Quebec

Rain was off and on for our garage sale, but we forged ahead and set up our tables anyway!  Very generous people brought a wonderful selection of  different items for our sale, and we sold most of what was brought!  The rest will be at our expected last garage sale of the season.

We thank all who brought items for us to sell, gave donations to our Rescue and all those who dropped by to wish us well, chat, and bring their “Gerdy dogs” for us to see!  We had visits from adopted dogs Roxy, Nugget (formerly Dora), Cooper, and Rusty, and a guest appearance by one of Colleen & Bob’s Bassets, Angus. Other dogs joined in the fun with their people.

Gerdy would like to thank Sharon Grant for hosting our garage sale, helping us set things up and selling, and for the great buffet she provided us for breakfast and lunch.  Gerdy thanks her volunteer helpers Yvette, Judy & Roger, Joy and Claire, Colleen and Sandy.

We all had fun, and the rain didn’t pour til we were packing up — all in all a successful fundraising sale on behalf of our animals!

September 19 & 20, 2009   Fundraiser Garage in St. Lazare, Quebec

Both days were sunny and great garage sale weather.  We were pleased to see some former Gerdy dogs come with their proud owners—some were Gerry & Sylvia Foliot with their BARNEY,  ANITA with her family, Moka & Memphis the 2 Chocolate Lab boys,  Joy and foster Maddox,  and  LouLou, formerly Ginger.

Gerdy would like to thank Christine and Michel for their hospitality in hosting this garage sale fundraiser as well as donating items for sale plus providing snacks to keep up our strength for the 2 day event!   Gerdy thanks her volunteers Yvette, Mila,  Christine,  Judy & Roger, for setting up and packing up again and for the usual fun time selling, and Thelma for visiting in time to make a few sales as well!!

To all our friends, old and new who dropped by to visit—it was great to see you again!  Thanks to those of you who made donations so our work can continue!   And visiting  adopted wee pup LouLou had a ball being fussed over and played with by all her new friends both human and canine!  Gerdy thanks all who made our days successful in any way!!

September 12, 2009   Fundraiser Garage & Antique Sale in Pointe-Claire, Quebec

We had a beautiful day for our Garage and Antique Sale!  We were told it was the best one of that day.  Everyone had a great time, Gerdy and crew got to see quite a few of our dogs from the past, brought by their new families to visit Gerdy.  Gerdy thanks Yvette, Colleen, Judy, Roger, and Glen for transporting and arranging, plus making sales and Colleen, Yvette, and Mila who brought eats to fuel our sales enthusiasm on top of all that!  Roger for making tea!

Visitors included Joy with her handsome rescue shepherd Maddox, Lily the Bassethound, Sheila with her  Pal  doing well dispite his Addison’s, our dear Jackie and Amanda—we had lots of animal visitors!  Gerdy thanks all who came to give a hand or who supported us by buying—the winners in this are our animals getting vet care to make them ready for adoption.  Every penny raised will go for their care.

September 5, 2009   Fundraiser Garage Sale in Brossard, Quebec

A Garage Sale was held in Brossard at their home by Sam and Thelma in support of Gerdy’s Rescues & Adoptions.  Daughter Joy helped put up the signs as well as lending a hand all day as a super saleswoman.  However, Sam and Thelma were no slouches either in the sales department and a good sum was raised for the medical care of our animals!  Thelma prepared a marvelous lunch for the volunteers as well, assisted by her friend Muriel’s sandwiches—delicious with Thelma’s Feel Good Soup and dessert -- homemade Carrot Cake!  Watching the sales was Rajah, their Great Dane!

Thanks also to Sandy, Roger, and Judy—who assisted Gerdy in sales and banter—a usual fun time!  Thanks to those who brought their dogs for Gerdy to see and people who dropped by to see Gerdy and talk with her.

We had a beautiful day for the sale and are so very grateful for the extraordinary hospitality shown to us, thank you, Thelma, Joy, and Sam—for all you did by having this fundraiser at your home.

August 1 & 2, 2009   Two day Fundraiser Garage Sale in St. Lazare, Quebec

Our St Lazare two -day garage sale hosted by Christine and Michel had a good start on Saturday, where we saw a number of people come and buy.

Dogs adopted from us previously were brought to see us, which is always a pleasure.  It was a successful day for us, and we thank Christine and Michel for hosting the garage sale for us, contributing items, and donating the proceeds of the sale of their items to us to help the animals in our care.  We will have “new stock” now to take to other garage sales, for which we thank them.  Also, they really spoiled us with the food goodies and drinks they provided.  Thanks too to Yvette for all her help, she brought some great items to donate for our sale as well, and the tables too!

Also Mila for her help and especially when it rained all day Sunday—we had a great time regardless!  Thanks to all who contributed items or contributed in any way to help us raise funds, we sincerely appreciate the help.

August 1, 2009   Fundraiser Concert to be held in Pointe-Claire, Quebec

Gerdy’s Rescues & adoptions would like to express sincere gratitude to Judy Hung and Mareja Krekul for the wonderful concert given by them at Valois United Church in Pointe Claire in August 1.   The funds raised were divided between the Valois United Charity Fund and Gerdy’s Rescues & Adoptions—thank you SO much for sharing with us!

The event was so very enjoyable, the artistic program was enthralling to all who attended, and the Intermission goodies were delicious—a lovely evening that we are still talking about with pleasure!

June 13, 2009   Fundraiser Dinner to benefit Gerdy's Rescues and others

Gerdy’s rescues wishes to thank Peaceful Pleasures for hosting a fundraising dinner for us and 2 other rescue groups, CASCA and Refuge RR for Horses.   There was a wonderful turnout and obviously a lot of tickets sold, making it a most successful evening, not only for the rescues involved, but in the enjoyment of the occasion by all present.

During the evening, Sharon Grant of Peaceful Pleasures was presented with a certificate of gratitude created and  designed by Colleen Paterson on behalf of the group and presented with a word of thanks by Gerdy.

An enjoyable evening was had by all, the steaks and lobsters were a treat to enjoy, as well as the rest of the meal and was very nicely presented—thank you all so much who did all this work which was much appreciated.  Gerdy enjoyed seeing so many of her friends and supporters there, and her volunteers had a great time as well!

A great evening all in all, our thanks to Peaceful Pleasures for all your effort and we sincerely assure you that the animals we help are also very grateful.

May 30, 2009   Fundraiser Garage Sale to Benefit Gerdy's Rescues

Well, the weather was on a more favourable side so we made it a 2 day garage sale!   Many thanks to Kim and George for enabling us to do this sale in their driveway and in the garage, which was great as we dodged the rain on Saturday;  as well as contributing very generously items for sale.

Many thanks to Michel and Christine for their wonderful donated articles, and to Christine for manning a table both days.  To our group volunteers, Gerdy says a big thanks—Yvette, Roger, Judy.  Eats provided by Kim, George, & Christine were very appreciated!  We are happy to say it was a very successful sale thanks to the generosity and support of the people involved as well as the community support.

And one more thing—at the last minute, we did receive and sell—“everything—AND the kitchen sink!”  We and all our animals deeply appreciate your dedicated help.

May 16, 2009   Fundraiser Plant Sale in Pointe-Claire, Quebec

Well—the day was a gardener’s dream, but we were greeted with pouring rain halfway through our sale.  However we had managed to sell a lot before being rained out.  Thanks to everyone who played a part in enabling the plant sale to be such a success.

To Yvette who brought items to sell at our sale.  To Betty- who grew fabulous tomato plants from seed for our organic gardeners which was a SELLOUT—many thanks for your dedication to this project of yours, which in itself raised much- needed funds for our cause.  To Ed, who dug many plants  from his land for us to sell in our fundraiser, with Sandra to help—your effort paid off in favour of the animals we help.  To Sandy and all who donated plants to our sale, and bought from us as well, thank you for your support.  Roger for helping with sales along with Judy.

And to our dear friend Monique—with a huge heart for the animals welfare—thank you for buying all that was left, may your gardens grow beautiful  with  the appreciation of Gerdy’s Rescues and the animals you have helped benefit by your kind generosity.  Another year, another successful fundraiser to help our animals.

To the winners of our prize draws—congratulations!  And to those of you who brought your Gerdy’s dogs to visit us—you inspire us!

March 28, 2009   Adoption Day at Hudson Pet Fair in Hudson, Quebec

Gerdy’s was at The Hudson Pet Fair, placing during the day  9 dogs.  An Honourary Prize at Pet Idol Contest #1, our  3 legged Basset, CHARLES, took a special prize awarded him for managing well and without complaint-- walking on 3 legs and looking real cute doing it!  Nothing slows down brave Charles! Charles was impressed by one of the judges “Ozzy Osbourne”.  The dogs enjoyed their trips to the stage being shown by our volunteer handlers.

Thanks to Vera for the goodies she brought for our sale table, to Betty for the catnip toys & fridge magnets and fudge & muffins donated as well as helping man the sales table with Colleen and Thelma—we raised the most donations ever—thanks gals!

Thank you to our volunteer dog handlers—Roger, Judy, Sandy, Leila, Joy, Claire, Yvette, Amanda, Ashley, Carol and Beatty for doing such a good job as usual.

Special thanks to Colleen and Bob for composing the very helpful booklets of pictures of our dogs available to help people choose, for the t-shirts, and business cards.

To Ed and Sandra  of Chez Sandra Chalet et SPA for organizing our dogs to be picked up with such efficiency.

To all who came and spoke with us, adopted our dogs, and expressed future interest in getting a dog, as well as leave welcome donations, a big thank you.   See you at the next Hudson Pet Fair later on this year!

December 6, 2008   Dog Adoption Day in Hudson, Quebec

We had a very fun day at the Hudson Pet Fair!

Well organized, we got our 2 tables all set up and our volunteers were looking forward to being Santa’s helpers at the picture taking of pets with Santa.

We thank Sandy, Leila, Anita, and Joy for their kind assistance to Santa’s photographer and for the record keeping/cash table, as well as dog handling.

On Gerdy’s table we thank Angela for setting up out table so professionally well, and she and Thelma for their wonderful sales technique that brought in cash donations from items sold!

Other great handlers of our  dogs this year were Yvette,  Claire, Amanda, Angela, and Roger—thank you ALL!  You brought out the best in our dogs!  We thank previous adopters for bringing in their dogs for us to see—it was a joy to see dogs so happy and doing well!

Thank you Donna for another wonderful Pet Fair to showcase the dogs and cats of rescue!

September 6 & 7 Fundraiser Garage Sale in Hudson, QC

Gerdy and her volunteers would like to thank Kim and George for hosting a garage sale at their home, and also for donating stuff to sell.  In fact we’d like to thank all the generous people who donated to our cause, both in time, money, and by giving nice things to sell.

Thanks to all our supporters who purchased items and helped in any way!  Thanks to Joy who was our Mascot and Sales Leader on Saturday, who dolled herself up in Christmas decorations and stood by the roadside as the Christmas Fairy to draw attention to Gerdy’s Rescues sale; we got many willing customers thanks to her sense of humour and beauty!  She was helped enthusiastically by Diane and her Bree!

Giving their time to help out were Yvette, who supplied us not only with tables but items to sell as well -- Sandy, Roger, Judy, and of course, Gerdy was there to greet old and new friends.  Saturday was a typical Gerdy’s Rescue day in that Gerdy helped out with emergency temporary placement of a dog and 2 cats—thanks to Kim, her George,  and Maggie—who were able to offer the help needed to carry it off and get these animals into safety.

We thank all those who dropped by to wish us well and who showed us their Gerdy’s dogs for old times sake!  Thank you to Teressa for donating so many of your late mother’s possessions to Gerdy’s Rescues, they sold well, and we thank you for your generosity and good wishes.

August 23 Fundraiser Garage Sale in Kirkland, QC

A THANK YOU GOES OUT TO ANN AND RICHARD

Gerdy’s Rescues would like to thank ANN and RICHARD for the Fundraising Barbecue they held for us at their home, with invited guests, on August 23.  Marvellous hosts, they and their friends who supported us so generously with cash donations, made us feel most welcome and had their deck buzzing with friendly chatter to the sizzle of hot dogs and mouth-watering special hamburgers, delicious salads,  and convivial drinks.

During the evening, Richard entertained us all with his guitar and songs we all remember;  we were enthralled by this surprise which we found so enjoyable and a bonus!  Acting as co-hosts were the family dogs, Susu and Holmes—a connection to Gerdy’s Rescues as Susu was a Gerdy’s dog lucky enough to end up being adopted by them and Holmes.

They appointed themselves to the post of Cleanup Committee, especially Holmes the Bassethound who cleaned up every crumb he found—plus whole unwatched plates of food.   We met many wonderful animal-loving people and enjoyed talking with them.  A beautiful evening, all in all!

August 16 Fundraiser Garage Sale in Kirkland, QC

We would like to thank Sandy Goulet for hosting a last minute Garage Sale for Gerdy’s Rescues as we finally got a break in the weather with no rain scheduled for last Saturday.  We all pitched in and was able to have a wonderful sale at her house in Kirkland from 9 til 4.  Our thanks once again to Yvette and Roger for all their help because we could not have done it without them!  And a very special thanks to Joy and her wonderful mum Thelma who showed us that with her  humour and persistence we could increase sales—Thelma, it was a delight having your help too as you made it so much FUN!

Thanks to those who dropped by to visit with us, most with their dogs in tow—always a delight to see old friends and our dogs!  A special thanks to those who donated so generously and made this sale possible, we appreciate your generosity to our animals, vet bills are high and you have helped make the load easier.  Our dogs & cats who needed help thank you.  Leila and Adam, thank you for your support when we needed extra hands.  We had a great sale, a great time—thanks to all of you and those who bought and supported our mission!

June 28 Pedigree Adopt a Shelter Dog drive in Ste Dorothee, QC

GERDY’S RESCUES was in Ste Dorothee, Quebec  on Saturday, June 28th in collaboration with the Pedigree Adopt a Shelter Dog drive.

We set up in front of the Walmart store and spent the afternoon meeting people and explaining the adoption process in order to adopt a dog.  Gerdy met many interested families, and also gave advice to them where needed.  We encouraged children to pet our representative dog, Tequila, a very tranquil and sweet Golden Retriever (since spoken for!)  Gerdy’s Rescues believes that children are the future protectors of animals in Quebec and we did all we could to encourage the kids to see that a dog has feelings just as they do.  Lovely Tequila was free with friendly kisses, rewarding the kids for their gentleness with her.

It was a wonderful opportunity to educate the public of the plight of abandoned pets in our province and we thank Pedigree for the opportunity to be there as a member of their Adoption Drive Program in Canada.  We were joined by 2 representatives of Pedigree who did a marvelous job of greeting the public on behalf of Pedigree, encouraging them to donate to the Adoption Drive cause, and it was a good response.

We also had our donation box there and were very pleased with the generosity of everyone, especially the kids who, without dog parental encouragement, donated both to Pedigree and our Rescue!  We thank our great volunteer Sandy, who brought the dog she is fostering for us at her home, Tequila.  The great news is that a family will be adopting Tequila soon.

June 21 Fundraiser Garage Sale in Vaudreuil-Dorion, QC

We had a beautiful day for our garage sale, and a real good turnout!  We thank Sandra and Ed for all they did to help us pull this one off well—so much help without which we never could have had such a well presented sale. Sandra did the beautiful direction signs!  Ed moved all the items up the hill with his lawn tractor and saved us much effort in setting up.  They even supplied our hungry team with a wonderful lunch set up by Pamela!  We were spoiled!

We had a wonderful time chatting with people about their dogs and cats, some people we knew, others we were delighted to meet and hope to see again.  Again our wonderful team—Gerdy, Yvette, Sandy, Kim, Joy, Leila, and Judy —made the whole event fun, and the time flew!

We thank everyone who helped support us by buying items they did not know they needed!  And the people who shared the stories of their beloved animal’s lives—thank you, because we need to hear stories of people who loved their animals to balance what we see daily in unwanted souls who need love and commitment.

Thank you to all who donated items to the cause—you keep us going—and we’ll see you at the next garage sale!

Thank you, All!

May 17 Fundraiser plant sale in Pointe-Claire, QC

We had a great day for our yearly Plant Sale and this year combined it with our spring garage sale.  On hand to donate a day of their time were our supporters Yvette and Sandy.

Judy hosted the plant section and Gerdy, Sandy, and Yvette managed the garage sale—a great time was had by all!  Roger and Gerdy did the cash—just as the sale got nicely on, Gerdy received an emergency call to take on a 4 month old pup—so she left us in charge and went to pick him up.  Not having anywhere to take him to, she brought him back with her and did the world’s fastest adoption—Sandy took one look and fell for the little guy big time. Adoption was the result.  The family has named him Ollie!  And he is very happy in his new home.  Just another day in the life of Gerdy’s Rescues!

We were fortunate enough as well to have supporters old and new, drop by, some with their dogs, for a visit.  We loved seeing both people and dogs.  We thank Yvette for providing all the tables, people who donated plants from their garden, and garage sale items—we could not have done it without your help!

Thank you all for making it a successful fundraiser with ALL PROCEEDS going to Gerdy’s Rescues as usual.

Gerdy’s Rescues would like to thank Dominique for taking the initiative to do a dog nail clipping fundraiser today at GLOBAL on St Charles, Vaudreuil-Dorion.  Our thanks to Michel, owner of Global for providing the use of his premises for same, and everyone who came with a pet for nail trimming—we and our animals are grateful for your support.

March 29 Adoption Day in Hudson, QC

We had a great turnout, and it was a great day’s outing for our dogs, who got to sniff at and chum with other dogs for adoption and gets fussed over.  By the day’s end, they were all ready for a good nap!

We again would like to thank our friends for volunteering to be handlers—Yvette (Pogo), Roger (Duke), Kitty (handling various dogs), Megan (Tiger), Jemima (Zorro), Debbie (PUGGY-BEAR), and Jaye. It was fun and very busy for us.  We placed some dogs and hope for calls on others we showed.

People!!—DUKE still needs his family home—he is SUCH a good boy, not a mean bone, and a total sweetheart, very affectionate. TIGER is a good boy too and would also love a family home!  And wee SPENCER was brought in too—surprise, he does get along with friendly dogs!  He was just a little bit shy!  Is not a cat guy tho! And he is beautifully marked and can easily be carried!  Now THERE is a good little dog!

Even our new PASCHA made an appearance with his foster mum, and charmed the crowd.  And Basset baby CLIFFORD found a foster home after going to sleep on the stage as he was being presented! Pogo the Teckel  went to his new home as well!  And we got in another dog—this one is a SWEETIE!  A Lab/Dalmation cross—temperament and build of a LAB and the white with spots of a DALMATION—this 9 year old is active and gentle.  Coming up soon on our website.

Thanks to Vera for bringing a big amount of her famous FUDGE and superb CHERRY CAKES to sell as fund raisers!  Sold-out success!  Both homemade from scratch by a great cook!  Thank you to old friends for coming to see Gerdy and her gang, she enjoyed speaking with each of you.  Thank you EVERYONE with the support you again gave us donating your extra change to our “fish bowl”—every donation goes to help our animals!  Now here are some pictures:

December 8 Fundraiser and Adoption Day in Saint-Laurent, QC

Well, not only was it an Adoption Day for Gerdy’s Rescues, but Santa came early to greet his canine friends (and one rabbit!!) who had their picture taken with the Jolly Old Boy!!

The proceeds of which all went to Gerdy’s Rescues to enable us to continue with our work.  We are grateful to Daren Hodgson for donning suit and beard for the starring role of the day!

Well done, Daren!  And thanks to his wife Kim for taking the lovely photos, and daughter Jaye for handing out treats to Santa’s canine pals!  A huge thanks to Dina, mum Giselle, and sister Katia for hosting the event for us — and to the clientele of SPAWS and friends for supporting us in this fundraiser.  Tickets were sold for prizes and winners notified by telephone to pick up their prizes at SPAWS.

Roger Cameron was Santa’s Helper and Elf of All Trades for the day.  Our dogs enjoyed themselves meeting prospective adopters and their families and were perfectly behaved! No lumps of coal in their stockings this year!  Gerdy would like to thank Judy and Kim for assisting her, along with Alanna and Katia being a huge help with the dogs.  It was a fun day for all there, and we thank all those who contributed prizes for our event and helped make it such a success in every way. Well done, Everybody — and thank you all so much!

December 1 Gerdy's Rescues to attend PET FAIR in Hudson, QC

We took a total of 7 dogs to the Pet Fair on Saturday Dec 1, in Hudson.  We enjoyed speaking with those who came to see us, and were thrilled to see familiar faces and the dogs they adopted from us, like Old Home Week!

As usual, we have our wonderful volunteers who cared for the dogs that were brought:  Kim, Kitty, Roger. Yvette, Alanna, Colten, Catlin, Cody, Curtis, Megan, Sommer, Christi, Nikki and Tara. Gerdy and Judy manned the information table — by day’s end we had all had a turn doing both.   Fundraiser dog items for sale were kindly provided by Brenda,  books for sale by Peggy.

The dogs were in good form as usual, and enjoyed their day out of being petted and fussed over.  Kim provided colourful Christmas design scarves for each dog to wear. Paddy took a chair to himself and oversaw the goings on like the king he thinks he is, grinning happily at his subjects!  Beau loved being on show and had a great old time.

Dancer was her usual spirited happy self—enjoying the attention, oldsters Cocoa and Jackie  were their sweet dignified selves, Ladybug proved what a social dog she has turned out to be, and Moka the Brown Lab was a diplomatic success in charming everyone with his good manners.

At day’s end all the dogs were pleasantly tired and had enjoyed their day out on a field trip with Gerdy’s Rescues.  And slept well that night!

October 21 Fundraiser at St. Lazare Animal Hospital, St. Lazare, QC

A beautiful sunny day brought out owners and their long-nailed dogs to support Gerdy’s Rescues at the St Lazare Animal Hospital Nail Clipping Fundraiser.

We’d like to thank Dr Morel for providing the space and the staff for providing the expertise of nail clipping done always  with a cheerful attitude and sometimes tired hands.

The donation basket was for the owners to donate, the dogs — and one cat — donated their nail clippings.  We so thank the staff for their generosity in doing this fundraiser for us, it was a wonderful idea of yours and well received.  We appreciate this so very much.  Thank you.  The dogs left the clinic in silence where they had arrived with clicking nails on the floor — good job!

We thank everyone who came and supported our cause and it was wonderful to see some of our Gerdy’s dogs come with their new families as well.

September 29 Gerdy's Rescues attends PET FEST in NDG, QC

It was a perfect day when we arrived at the Pet Fest in NDG, with dogs Mr. Beasley the black pug and Banzai the Golden Retriever. Banzai spent a very pleasant few hours enjoying meeting the crowd as he awaited the arrival of his new adoptive family to pick him up.

Mr. Beasley was front and center, having a ball greeting people very calmly and like a gentleman, charming all he met.  Later on Gerdy walked him as Gerdy’s Rescues entrant into the Dog Parade, as “Little Babushka”, to the cheers of the  appreciative crowd.

During the Fest, Roger Cameron served as dog handler at varying times with each dog.  Gerdy along with Judy manned the Gerdy’s Rescues information table.  We were able to give out advice on various subjects to interested people.  We also had a chance to greet old friends and have good chats.  And make some new friends for Gerdy’s Rescues.  All in all, a delightfully enjoyable day!

September 15 Fundraiser Garage Sale in Pointe-Claire, QC

After a rainy start to the day on Saturday September 15, we took a chance at the first weather clearing to set up our sale around noon. Expecting at any moment weatherwise to have to pack things away again, we forged ahead with the sale. Gerdy even went and got Suki who got adopted that day. We were afraid to bring other dogs because of the uncertain weather. (We do not take cats to adoptions, it is too stressful on them.)

We continued the sale on Sunday, and had a great day this time. Gerdy both days had the chance to meet friends old and new, dogs as well as their beloved people. Our thanks again to everyone who provided the donations for the sale, we could not have done it without your help.

Yvette and Glen, our dear friends who brought in many items which bolstered our sale as well  in their handy truck, several truckloads! Yvette who as usual, stayed with us helping with sales both days. Thanks again to all who donated recently and kept our stock “fresh”!

A huge thanks to Kim and Daren Hodgson for bringing everything in the llama trailer, which in itself caused interest, “what was Gerdy’s Rescues doing with a llama trailer in Pointe Claire?” Not llamas, but garage sale stuff all generously stored by Kim and Daren. Thanks Daren for the manpower too! It had to be unloaded! Thanks to Kim for taking care of an emergency for Gerdy during the sale, it was very much appreciated, you are a valued member of the group Kim!!

Thanks to Roger, as usual, for his masterful technique developed over the years, of being our Keeper of the Purse during the sale, as well as Man Who Moved Stuff Around when we set up, great job!

HUGE thanks to our dear friends Wendy & Bob McCabe who helped us pack up after each day’s sale when we were so tired, your help was invaluable at a time when we were all exhausted!

The big news of the day is that our heartworm infected dog, Café, was placed in a loving home!!  His treatment will continue, he is doing well so far. A reminder to get your dog yearly heartworm preventative—it is here!

Thank you ALL for helping Gerdy’s Rescues in so many ways to continue our mission!

September 8 Special Fundraiser Street Sale in Westmount, QC

Thanks to Judy Delaney and Beverley Auerbach, who organized and carried out a very successful STREET SALE and  DONATED ALL THE PROCEEDS to Gerdy’s Rescues & Adoptions!

This happy event was held on Saturday the 8th of September in Westmount, and was held with assistance from Casey and Kevin Auerbach, Mackenna Palmer, Joanne Dubois, Paul & Beverly Delaney, Kirsten & Stephan Lamoureaux, Bernie Pool, Val Acland, Muffy Brown, Mariam Sheinberg, Esther Backler, Lynn Lefebvre, and Briar Lawrence.  GENEROUS DONATIONS were from Catherine Drummond, Diane Vachon, Ben & Tournesol.

Gerdy gives a special thanks to the children who took the time to organize their own fundraiser for us, with a lemonade stand AND cookies baked and sold by Mai & Tyler Arsenault. The Lemonade Stand and Cards designed, drawn & sold by Liam Drummond, Mia Drummond and Charlotte Herbner.  Gerdy is especially touched by the children’s generosity of spirit in doing what they could to bring medical care and comfort into the lives of the dogs and cats who cannot speak THANKS! for themselves.  They are a credit to the generation who will follow in bringing animal cruelty legislation and stronger laws for the protection of future Quebec disadvantaged animals.

Children who take the time out of their Saturday to do this very thoughtful and generous action are commended by everyone in Gerdy’s Rescues because you are the future of animal rescue and it will be you who accomplish what others have tried for years, to bring justice to the abusers, and an end to the belief that animals can feel no pain, no loss, no fear, and are just the personal property of those thinking they have the right to treat living, breathing cats and dogs as objects to be disposed of like old shoes, and thrown out without compassion or care.

To all of you who took the time to contribute in any way by purchasing and thereby supporting the cause of Gerdy’s Rescues & Adoptions, we give our sincerest appreciation.  Most of all, our animals thank you—by being able to reclaim their lives as loved, sheltered, and valued members of new families.

For their medication, vet care, spay/neuter, surgery to repair injuries accidental and deliberate — WE THANK YOU ALL BECAUSE WE CANNOT DO IT WITHOUT SUPPORT OF PEOPLE LIKE YOU!

Gerdy Gouron, and all of us at Gerdy’s Rescues

August 25 Fundraiser Garage Sale & Adoption Day in St. Lazare, QC

It was a sunny morning August 25 when we set up our tables and loaded them up with goodies — thanks to all who donated to our cause. A special thanks to Kim Erassi for donating a huge number of lovely things for our sale, Yvette with her wonderful donations and help in selling them, and Karine, Linda and Sylvia also for their generous donation of sale items. They all added variety to our offerings and resulted in a very successful fundraiser!

Our thanks go out again to The Connells for the use of their house and property.  And praise with thanks to our dedicated volunteers Lisa, Ginger, Justin, Katie, Dylan, Daren (hotdog chef extrordinaire, deliveryman, and llama trailerman), Jaye, John, and Mitch, our newest volunteer! Thanks to all your support, our dog adoption clinic was great fun for the dogs we brought and they got lots of exercise and enjoyment socializing. Thanks to the guys who pitched in at the end and did a super job of loading up with such enthusiasm and expertise.

Thank you to everyone who came and supported our cause with good words and cash donations — as you know 100% assists us in getting our animals adopted into loving homes. Gerdy and her group enjoyed “talking animals” with interested people. Our thanks to Kim and Daren for providing hot dogs and soft drinks as an additional fundraiser. A truly good time was had by all!!

August 24 A Special Thanks To Zoe!

Gerdy and the team of Gerdy’s Rescues & Adoptions have a very special word of thanks.  We feel strongly that children are the future of how animals are treated in Quebec and are our best hope for doing something to continue the efforts made by us as the years go by.  When every day brings us news of terrible abuses and neglect or abandonment of pets, it is a ray of sunshine to hear words of hope like this!

A girl by the name of Zoe Fargnoli Brown decided to make her turning 8 years old into a August 24th Birthday Celebration Sharing Event by creating a special Certificate of Donation to Gerdy’s Rescues and placing it in every guest’s loot bag.  It  had the name of each child individually, with the wording that they had donated dog and cat food to Gerdy’s Rescues.  Zoe did the same herself.

We are so proud of this 8 year old who showed us adults what children could accomplish with their ideas!   One is never too young to be of help in animal rescue!  Perhaps Zoe and her friends would like to know where a food donation goes in Gerdy’s Rescues.  We give donated food to senior citizens on fixed income, because they will go without food themselves to feed their animals.  We supply cat food to those kind people who do spay/neuter/release then supply food to the cat colonies, because without it those cats would starve to death. At least there are no new kittens to suffer in those colonies.

Occasionally, we provide dry dog food to those feeding the foxes who every day are squeezed out of their natural habitat and are slowly starving to death as more and more development eats up their habitat.  It also keeps the foxes fed so they have no inclination to prey on cats who are strays or pets people still foolishly let outside.  Without donations of food, we could not do this at all!

Zoe, we wish you could see the expressions of relief, joy, and gratitude on the faces of those who depend upon donations of food—what a birthday present that would be, a memory to last a lifetime!  Those who give receive much more in return.  So to you, Zoe, who also thought up the idea of the proceeds of the recent Westmount garage sales going to Gerdy’s Rescues, and to all your birthday guests who shared with their Certificates of Contribution—whose names appear below:

A HUGE THANK YOU!

To:  Zoe Fargnoli Brown, Birthday Girl.

GUESTS:  Libby Lassman, Emma Langburt, Sarah Waldron, Olivia Masella, Francesca Fargnoli, Alexa Papanastasiou, Evelyne Renzi, Alex Gardilcic, Danova Gardilcic, Katrina Gardilcic, Lucia Saragovi, Bianca Coletta, Julia Garfinkle, Zoe Doyle, and Laura Cohen.

August 11 Fundraiser Antique Appraisals in Pointe Claire, QC

A beautiful sunny summer day was the setting for the Antiques Appraisal Day at Stefina Antiques during the celebration street sale event.

Mona had 3 experts in their fields appraising people’s antiques, much to the delight of those seeking information about their family treasures. It was the Valois version of Antiques Roadshow and much enjoyed by those taking part.

Our deepest thanks to Mona, her husband, and her team for creating a reasonable facsimile of Roadshow tables under sun umbrella and  donating to Gerdy’s Rescues and Adoptions the proceeds, as well as the proceeds of the Jellybean Count contest and the children’s old mechanical ride that parents put their quarters in to see their small children have the same ride that the parents used to enjoy.

A special visitor was Pal, a german shepherd mix who Gerdy helped out in his time of need.  He came to support the cause and say thanks, along with his person Sheila.

We also thank all those who supported us by participating in the fun and enjoyment so generously provided by Stefina Antiques. Special thanks to Mike, David and Arthur who did the appraisals.

And Mona, your generosity is greatly appreciated by all of us at Gerdy’s Rescues!

July 14 Fundraiser Garage Sale in Hudson, QC

A Garage Sale to benefit Gerdy's Rescues & Adoptions was held in Hudson, Quebec and as usual all proceeds benefited the animals.

Kim and family graciously invited us to their property to have one side for our garage sale while she had the other for her own sale. We thank them for their generosity in helping us. We did not bring any dogs this time, just Gerdy, Judy, Kim Hodgson, Yvette, and Mila — sales reps having fun!

Gerdy talked shop (our animals)  as she darted from customer to customer — a very busy gal.  She was pleased to meet people she knew as well as new supporters who stopped by.

We thank the people who attended for having supported us by their purchases and donations — and we thank all who have donated items for us to sell.

July 7 Fundraiser Garage Sale & Adoption Day in St. Lazare, QC

The Garage Sale and Adoption Day was just wonderful! We started our day with rain but it cleared and we were able to go ahead with all we planned.  A huge thanks to the Connell Family for letting us have our event on their property, and for the sweets and coffee provided, plus the use of their facilities.

We were able to show some of our dogs for adoption due to the efforts provided by Sue, Kitty, Dylan, Katie and Jaye — and with Sue and Kitty fetching the dogs and Sandra of Sandra’s Chalet et SPA getting them ready to go — we had 3 nice dogs to show and provide a day’s outing which they enjoyed immensely!  Radar (since adopted), Saku, and Mollie put their best doggy feet forward and enjoyed all the fuss made of them by all attending.

Lisa was our resident artist face painter extraordinaire for the kids and assisted in any other ways to help out as well.  Daren was King of the barbecue and produced the greatest hot dogs in the world to the delight of all there — raising extra money for Gerdy’s donation box.

Lucky winners of the door prizes were Nicholas, Aimee, Marilyn, Pauline and Lisa. A good time was had by all!

As always, thanks to Yvette for bringing extra stuff she collected for us and spending the day selling same to plump up the profits, and to Mila for helping out any way she could.  Always a pleasure to have friends like that around.

Thanks EVERYONE!

Gerdy, Judy, and Kim

May 26 Garage Sale in Pointe-Claire a success!

The Garage Sale to benefit Gerdy's Rescues & Adoptions was a fun event for all concerned! To the beat of old time rock n' roll and the 70's music, Gerdy's boombox provided the sound background to the delight of everyone who came.

We had a driveway full of donations on a beautiful day so we were off to a good start. Gerdy's "sales staff" consisted of Gerdy herself, Judy, Kim, Yvette, and Alana with trusty Roger as cashier and sometime holder of leash for dogwalking owners so they could peruse the goods available.

Gerdy enjoyed visits from former years of placement and being brought up to date on how the animals are now, as the dogs sniffed the goods (and each other). Our dog toys sold well, with this being the first year that no dog committed toy theft -- a fact that disappointed Gerdy who always got a kick out of an overenthused dog helping himself to what he wanted, and being allowed by Gerdy to get away with it.

Dina of SPAWS came and surprised us with pizzas at lunch time, thank you, Dina -- they were delicious and a welcome surprise! She also brought her two blonde labs who provided entertainment and comic relief to all.

And thank you to all who supported us in any way through donations of goods or cash, who helped bring over the heavy items, the visitors who were so thoughtful and supportive of our Rescue with kind words, people who make us able to do what we do because you get involved and help us achieve our goals -- thanks to us all, the animals will benefit.  And our thanks above all, to God, for the perfect weather for a change!

March 24

Hudson Pet Adoption Fair a success!

We are pleased to say that we enjoyed meeting both old and making new friends at the Hudson Pet Adoption Fair last Saturday, March 24th,  2007.  We were busy the whole day with adoptions, prospective adoptions, giving advice to those needing assistance with their animals (we were able to help a cat as well!)  Our mini-fundraiser went well with the sale of homemade catnip toys and dog cookies, we thank everyone who donated funds to help enable our animal rescue.

Gerdy was touched by the affection shown her for what her mission in life is.  We say a huge thanks too for the generosity of Chez Sandra Chalet et SPA  boarding kennel in disrupting their business routine to help our volunteers pick up their assigned dogs to bring to the Fair.  Sandra and Ed -- you're the greatest in what you do to support us every step of the way!  Thank you to all the great people who stopped to give us kind words of encouragement and greetings.

Well, there sure was a gang, some that transported, some that showed or held dogs and some that came to show support! So, in no particular order, thank you on behalf of our dogs, 7 out of 9 who got adopted over the weekend! The enthusiasm everyone of you had, reflected the wholehearted support that Gerdy's Rescues deeply appreciates and we couldn't have done it without you -- from the bottom of our hearts THANK YOU: Kitty, Cody, Curtis, Catlin, Sue, Katie, Dylan, Ross, Jaye, Megan, Tom and Kenny.

Gerdy also thanks personally Kim and Judy for their able assistance. Kim and Judy thank Gerdy for the opportunity to work  beside Gerdy for a cause they believe in. And the ones who benefited the most, our deserving wonderful dogs, they thank everyone most of all!

Garage/Antique Sale in Pointe-Claire

A huge turnout of garage sale enthusiasts and antique collectors, combined with superb weather conditions (thank you, dear Saints!) made our garage sale on Saturday, September 18th a wonderful success.

I had many visitors to my table and enjoyed seeing old friends – canine and human – and meeting new, interested animal lovers. We were blessed by the presence of wonderful people, and we thank them all for their generosity of spirit and support.

Of course, a big fund-raiser like this requires the help of a lot of good people and I would first like to thank all who donated goods to help us out. Many thanks to Frank and Marilyn for their pricing expertise and encouragement. A special word of thanks to Alana for helping clean out Judy and Roger’s basement, thus uncovering more “treasures” for the sale.

And to the “Saturday Helpers” – Alana, Mila, Joan, Patricia, Judy, and to the best walking cashier/salesman, Roger – I am so grateful to all of you for enabling me to continue to do what I love most!

Adoption Day - Success!

We were very encouraged with the good turnout for this our first-ever adoption day.  The dogs and cats loved all the attention they got.  Our canine friends made quite a fashion statement, as they showed off their new designer skerchiefs in orange, green and purple, our colours. Three families went home with their new pets on Sunday, while others have come in this week to finalize their adoptions.

A special thank you to Dr. Floyd and Dr. Rouleau for letting us hold the Adoption Day at their clinic. Thanks also to Laurie and Tara for coming in on their day off, and to Tracy and Karen for their patience and good humour.  Our usual gang of volunteers was there to lend us a hand; thank you Debbie, Juanita, Joan, Judy, Maggie, Mila and Patricia.

July 31 Garage Sale in Pointe-Claire

Despite the deluge, the July 31 garage sale in Pointe Claire failed to dampen our spirits.

The “Liquid-ation” Sale

T'was so bleak and soggy a day
That even ducks and fishes stayed away

T'was so bleak and soggy a day
That even ducks and fishes stayed away
But our intrepid gang, both hearty and hale
Made up our minds to hold our garage sale

Prayers to Saints Francis and Anthony
  Fell on deaf ears
The weatherman confirmed the worst of our fears
Despite impassioned and futile pleas to St. Jude
The weather stayed bad, but didn't dampen our mood
The rain beat down much of the day
The “Water Management Committee” kept bailing away
Using golf clubs and rackets to drain off our roofs
All soaking wet and looking like goofs
Gerdy's gang were all soaked to the gills
Laughing, cursing, and warding off chills

But to our great surprise and delight
  Visitors came, supporting our cause
Umbrellas in hand, and wallets in sight
  We might have done better
If the sun would have shone
  But the fellowship we shared
  Carried us on
To help our animals, our reason to be!

  We don't mean to complain
  Or spoil your fun
  But, dear Saints, next time
Can we please have some sun?

Thanks to Betty, Jake and Molly for a remarkable day not soon forgotten. The lunch was great, and the tea hot!

Garage Sale In Pointe Claire -  A Great Success

We had another very well-attended and lively garage sale, this time in Pointe Claire, capping a run of successful fundraisers. Thankfully, the weather held out for most of the day as we welcomed a steady stream of visitors. Our regular crew of volunteers were also there helping out. Gizmo, Travis and Oscar paid us a special visit, coming to say hello and snack on dog cookies. It is always gratifying to see our adoptees (and their owners) so happy and loved.

Our thanks to Joan for hosting the event and for organizing lunch. A special thanks to Greer and Bill who came from Ottawa, by way of Calgary, and who donated many of the items in the sale. Thanks also to Pearl, Joyce, Ellen and Isabel for their help and donations and to William for being such a good dog! All the proceeds will be used to help the cats and dogs in our care.

Happy Tails,

Garage Sale in Hudson

It was a perfect day by the lake in Hudson, with great company, both human and canine. We made new friends and met quite a few old supporters. Many of the items donated to us found new homes, and there were some great buys in the book department. We would love to hear back from the lady who bought the “203 ways to …” manual!

Some of the four-footed gang also enjoyed themselves! Freddie stole the show as well as some stuffed toys, Rory tried to dissuade a visitor from buying a stuffed polar bear he had his eye on, and Sandy and Carrie behaved much better than the boys!

Thank you Janet, Cyril, Reid and Sandy for inviting us to your home and hosting a very successful sale. It capped a great week of adoptions. The over $500 raised will go towards the cost of sterilizing and vaccinating the cats and dogs that are looking for new homes.

Thank you Mila, Claudia, Joan, Judy and Patricia for all your help and encouragement. A great team. Happy Tails!
