Coco Isn’t for Everyone.
But Maybe He’s Just Right For You.
Coco is an 8-year-old, 17-pound Italian Greyhound/Chihuahua mix who has come a long way since arriving at Gerdy’s.
He is a sweet, affectionate little dog who bonds closely with his person. Once he trusts you, his funny, playful personality comes out. He is smart, house-trained and responds very well to training.
Most importantly, he is making progress. His leash walking has improved enormously and he is now quite good on walks. He can still bark at some dogs, but responds to redirection and continues to improve.
Coco’s real challenge is unfamiliar people in the home. When overwhelmed, his anxiety can escalate and he may bark continuously. He is not ready for new visitors. He is also still uncomfortable in the car and will need time to build confidence.
Coco needs an experienced foster or adopter who understands anxious dogs and is comfortable with a slow, steady approach. A quiet, predictable home, someone who is around much of the time and a consistent routine would be ideal. We also recommend that Coco be the only pet.
This is not a dog for a busy household or someone looking for an instant, effortless fit. It is, however, a dog who has already shown that he can change when given the right support.
Coco is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped and housetrained.

Coco est un croisé Lévrier italien/Chihuahua de 8 ans pesant 17 livres, qui a parcouru un long chemin depuis son arrivée chez Gerdy’s.
C’est un petit chien doux et affectueux qui s’attache profondément à sa personne. Une fois qu’il vous fait confiance, sa personnalité drôle et enjouée se révèle pleinement. Il est intelligent, propre dans la maison et répond très bien à l’entraînement.
Plus important encore, Coco fait de réels progrès. Sa marche en laisse s’est énormément améliorée et il se comporte maintenant très bien en promenade. Il peut encore aboyer à certains chiens, mais il répond aux redirections et continue de progresser.
Le véritable défi de Coco concerne les personnes inconnues qui entrent dans la maison. Lorsqu’il se sent dépassé, son anxiété peut s’intensifier et il peut aboyer de façon continue. Il n’est pas encore prêt à recevoir de nouveaux visiteurs. Il est également encore mal à l’aise en voiture et aura besoin de temps pour gagner en confiance.
Coco a besoin d’une famille d’accueil ou d’un adoptant expérimenté qui comprend les chiens anxieux et qui est à l’aise avec une approche lente et progressive. Un foyer calme et prévisible, une personne présente à la maison une grande partie du temps ainsi qu’une routine stable seraient idéaux. Nous recommandons également que Coco soit le seul animal de la maison.
Ce n’est pas un chien pour un foyer très occupé ni pour quelqu’un qui recherche un compagnon qui s’adapte instantanément et sans effort. En revanche, c’est un chien qui a déjà démontré sa capacité à évoluer lorsqu’il reçoit le soutien approprié.
Coco est stérilisé, vacciné, micropucé et propre dans la maison.
