MEET DEX. BIG EYES, BIG HEART 
Dexter (Dex, to his friends) is an 8-year-old Yorkie mix with big eyes, a big heart, and a knack for sticking close to his favourite humans. He’s not flashy or fussy, just the kind of guy who fits right into your life like he’s always been there.
Until recently, Dex lived a quiet, devoted life as an emotional support dog for a wheelchair-bound owner. Their bond ran deep, and that experience shaped him: Dex is incredibly affectionate, tuned in, and happiest when he’s by your side. Life threw him a curveball when his owner could no longer care for him, but Dex seems to be taking it in his stride.
In foster care, he’s navigating a whole new world, a new house, new routines, even a dog and a cat housemate (both of whom he gets along with like a pro). He’s rolling with it, learning fast, and showing just how adaptable a little dog with a big heart can be.
Dex has a playful side too. Outdoors, he comes alive. He enjoys the freedom of a fenced yard, where he can explore, sniff, and stretch his legs. On walks, he can be reactive and barky to unfamiliar dogs, vocalizing out of uncertainty (his foster is working hard on this). However, Dex can be relaxed, sociable and playful with dogs he knows. Indoors he’s a quiet guy unless he spots a squirrel, then all bets are off.
He used to rely on pee pads in his former home, but he’s catching on quickly to outdoor bathroom breaks and doing great with his housetraining. Car rides make him a bit anxious at first, but once on the road, he’s out like a light.
Dex isn’t looking for chaos or crowds. What he wants is a calm, loving home, either adults only or a family with older kids (12+), who are home a lot and where he can be close, and get plenty of attention and affection. A mellow dog friend is definitely in the cards for him. With some patience and a little time to settle in, he’s going to make an incredible companion.
Dexter is neutered, microchipped and vaccinated. He weighs approximately 9 lbs.
